Being In A Small, Cozy Niche

Written by Evan Bailyn on 06/16 at 03:57 PM

The feeling of being tucked away in a tiny, remote niche is one of ultimate security. Apart from the coziness factor, knowing that you are in a place where you can’t be found has a certain excitement to it. When I build a house one day, I’d like to have a secret door in one of the walls that leads to my own private lair - a place with the coolness of a treehouse and the secrecy of an underground headquarters. I can’t remember the last time I found an intimate little nook like that, although I can easily picture the recessed rock or hollow oak that I would like to lay in and just think for hours, away from the eyes of the world.

how wonderful is that thought. Safety intimacy and an ability to comune with God would come from that. I feel as though I speak better with him when alone and in a closet like niche like you said. Always have, during childhood, once i got my own room i made it into my fantasy land. How wonderful that was. I relate and hail you for your thoughts.

I long for a place like that. A safe haven away from noise and bustle of everyday life. I have had that sanctuary ripped away from me in order to make ends meet. Now everyone troubles me with their troubles, gives me advice, and they just won’t go away.  I have to find that place else I will go out of my skull.  I’m having a solemn moment and this too shall pass.

i ahd a treehouse once, it wasnt mine, the local kids built it. but i loved to sit up there and watch a long sunset while writing littlethings or stories or just listen to my MP3 player. it was lovely, the sound of birds and trees rustling. Biss . . .
but sadly the council deemed it totally unsafe and spent the whole day ripping it to peices with axes coz it was so well supported.
nobody rebuilt it and we cant get up the tree anymore coz they fenced it off and a farmer watches it like a hawk.
so i just think about being there instead hoping i will find somewhere else to be quiet.

I had room where inside the closet was the stairs to the attack. It reminded me of the wardrobe in Narnia.

I’ve always been a fan of secret nooks. Someday I want to have a small house all my own where I can write and make art.
